Carla’s Meadow

Meadow conservation land along the White River with VAST trail and river access. Ski, snowshoe and snowmobile trails are frequently packed in winter. Carla’s Meadow Trail is a gentle, mowed, ¾ mile footpath with birds and wildlife. The property is located directly across Rt. 12 from the fire station. Park at the Athletic Fields to access; the trail starts at river next to the ball fields.

From the parking lot, walk toward the river and look for a small sign and trail map. Then follow the path and yellow flagging north (toward Randolph). The trail stays close to the river’s edge as you wind behind the youth baseball dugout. You’ll cross onto private land in the meadow by the river; please stay on the mowed paths and follow the flags. Once you’re in Carla’s Meadow, the trail runs through the woods along the river and loops back around. In winter, VAST snowmobile trails cross into the meadow.

Carla’s Meadow is named in memory of Carla Hodgdon, a longtime Bethel planning commission member and active steward of the land. Carla helped lead a community effort to preserve this parcel from development.

Many thanks to the private landowners who are allowing trail access to Carla’s Meadow across their lands.

Address: Access from 164 Pleasant Street (Athletic Fields)

Hours and Seasons: Carla’s Meadow is open all seasons and hours. Park at the Athletic Fields during summer months. The parking lot may not be plowed in winter; you can park at the Recreation Center or at the White River Valley School and walk across the street.
