Bethel Strong has two major initiatives of its own: Mutual Aid and the Community Teaching Garden.

This site also hosts website info for several community initiatives and projects that make Bethel stronger, but don’t have their own websites. Read on and get involved.

Bethel Strong & Community Initiatives

Community Teaching Garden

Want to grow your own food or help feed your neighbors? “Grow an extra row,” get a free raised garden kit, or learn at the new community teaching garden. Sign up, request a kit, and get involved.

Mutual Aid

In Vermont, we take care of each other. We’ve set up a strong mutual aid network to help neighbors connect with neighbors who need help. Get help or ask for help during times of emergency.

Bethel for All

How might we make Bethel more vibrant, accessible, connected and welcoming for all? Our community came together in 2021-2022 to create Vermont’s first Village Accessibility Plan. Before the plan was even finalized, we secured nearly $1M in grants to fund top priority action projects. Now we’re cruising.

Better Parks & Placemaking Trailer

Bethel’s turning the popular “Better Block” model toward parks with a fall 2023 “Better Parks” demo. The best part? We’re getting a mobile “placemaking trailer” to keep! This 17-foot trailer will be full of seating, lawn games, mini fire pits, lighting, signage and safety equipment and more for community groups to use to activate their own events.

Explore Bethel

As part of the Bethel for All planning project, the Steering Committee tried a lot of “Pop Up” project to test ideas and quickly launch a lot of cheap, easy projects to meet needs that they heard. One was a map of parks, public spaces and trailheads in Bethel.

Bethel Green Links ($330,000 VOREC grant)

In 2022, Bethel was awarded a $330,000 Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economy Collaborative Grant (VOREC) for “Bethel Green Links” — a project to link up, strengthen, and improve access to Bethel’s village parks, public spaces, trails, and recreation assets. It will implement accessibility projects in the Bethel for All plan, build new trails, fund the Better Parks Demo and trailer, and plan for future work. More info coming soon.
